Net Neutrality & Reclassification
I will yell it from the rooftops, I will yell it from the in the building, I will yell it from the ground, and I will most definitely yell it on the internet. Net Neutrality is a HUGE issue. If there was one thing that must change in this day and age is to defend Net Neutrality at ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exciting news! The Internet Slowdown net neutrality protest planned for September 10th is really taking off. This morning, a dozen of the world’s largest websites announced that they’re joining in a big way. Sites you know and love like Etsy, Kickstarter, Wordpress, Vimeo,…
The FCC has tried protecting net neutrality twice before, and been defeated by Big Telecom in court both times. In order to legally prevent Big Telecom from destroying net neutrality once again, the FCC should assert authority it already has under Title II of the Telecommunications Act of 1934 to regulate the internet as a public utility. This legal argument offers the most protection for real net neutrality to prevent ISPs from controlling content speed and blocking websites.
The Netherlands is widely recognized for having the highest cycling rates in the world. What’s not so well known is that the Dutch don’t bike so much because cycling is in their DNA. They do it because after the country started down the path toward car dependence, they made a conscious decision to change course. After many decades of deliberate policy to invest in cycling as a mode of transportation, the Netherlands has the most advanced bike infrastructure you’ll ever see.
Recenty Streetfilms joined a group of city leaders from Chicago, Washington, DC and Miami on a study tour of the Netherlands, through the Bikes Belong Foundation’s Bicycling Design Best Practices Program. The program shows American transportation professionals and policy makers real life examples of what it looks like to invest in cost-effective bicycle facilities. This video takes you on a tour of the incredibly well thought out street designs in the Netherlands. You’ll see the infrastructure, hear from the experts on the ground, and watch the tour participants react and imagine how they might implement similar designs in American cities
In January 2008, I received a grant to travel to Haiti with my brother to document the work of an elderly man who started an orphanage after living through the violent government upheavals in the 1980s.

I took my little brother (who falls on the autism spectrum) to see Guardians of the Galaxy and after this scene he lit up like a Christmas tree and screamed “He’s like me! He can’t do metaphors!” And for the rest of the film my brother stared at Drax in a state of rapture.
So for the last 6 days I have heard my brother repeatedly quote all of the Drax lines from the movie verbatim (one of his talents), begin studying vocabulary test words, and tell everyone he knows that people with autism can also be superheroes.
Now I am not saying that Drax the Destroyer is, or was ever, intended to be autistic. All I am saying is that it warmed my heart to see my brother have an opportunity to identify himself with a character known for his strength, badassness, and honor. And that is pretty damn awesome.
So while I adored Guardians of the Galaxy as a great fun loving film with cool characters I can do nothing but thank Marvel Studios and Dave Bautista for finally bringing a superhero to the screen that my little brother can relate to.
Guardians of the Galaxy and Autism………..A interesting everyday tale.
What can I say……………I’m what they call a “feminist”. Have a problem with that? Well good, you should just press the close window button and be on your way.
Here at Upworthy, we’ve spent the past two years building a culture around content curation. What is curation, you ask? It’s the process of sifting through the glut of content from across the web to find compelling, unsurfaced gems with societal importance and delivering them to folks in a way…
Curation 101 as according to UpworthyInsider……….
